Somerset Gift 2017

Three of our athletes attended the inaugural Somerset Gift today and experienced racing with some of the finest athletes on the Gold Coast.

Ieuan Cornelius (12yrs) – Competed in the Male U14’s 100m Gift
Anastasia Neumann (13yrs) – Competed in the Female U14’s 100m Gift
Nathan Perry (15yrs) Competed in the Male U15’s & Open Male 100m Gift

All three of our athletes had very difficult handicaps and were starting from behind most of the athletes they faced. Ieuan faced a very difficult task of racing up a couple of age categories due to the U14’s being the youngest event. Despite such a difficult task Ieuan managed to give a great account of himself and ran well finishing 6th. Anastasia and Nathan were also punching above their weight to compete with athletes not only older than them but with the disadvantage of starting several meters behind.

The event was an enjoyable experience and one in which I am sure will grow from strength to strength. I was very proud of the way in which our small squad represented themselves and their families. They demonstrated how far they have come in the past 12 months.

Well done to all three of you for working so hard to compete at this event and challenging yourselves outside of your comfort zone.

Heading for State Champs 2017

A wonderful regional athletics carnival at Ashmore Little Athletics saw ALL our athletes qualify for State Champs in Brisbane in March. There are some real opportunities for some of our athletes to go out and achieve a few podiums with the amount of good training they have put in over the past few months. Our athletes achieved a medal haul of 16 medals.

I am very proud of the effort not only by the athletes but the parents too. Running their children all over the Gold Coast for sprint training and athletics carnivals is no easy feat!

Congratulations to all and good luck in March!
